The University of North Carolina Center for Banking and Finance was established in July 2000 to support the leadership role played by North Carolina-based financial institutions in the continual evolution of the financial services industry. The Center provides a variety of support to banking professionals nationwide. This support is focused in three areas:

  1. The study of legal and policy issues related to banking and finance;
  2. Advancing the teaching of banking and finance;
  3. Sponsoring conferences for industry professionals.

Dream Fund Project

The Director Diversity Initiative at the UNC School of Law is the joint project of the Center for Banking and Finance and the Center for Civil Rights. The objective of the Initiative is to encourage boards of directors of public companies to increase their gender, racial, and ethnic diversity.

With Dream Fund support, the Initiative works to enhance awareness of the benefits of greater diversity on corporate boards, provide training for potential diverse board members, maintain a web-based clearinghouse of director diversity resources, and provide a director diversity database on which potential diverse directors may register. Based on its research and interviews of corporate directors, executives, and executive search firm personnel, the Director Diversity Initiative will publish one or more papers discussing how director diversity impacts board processes and corporate performance.
