The Thelton E. Henderson Center for Social Justice at the University of California, Berkeley's School of Law brings together faculty, students, the bar and the bench to explore more effective ways for the law to fulfill our nation's promise of equality for all people. The Center views the law in a larger social context and works in partnership with communities to provide education to the general public. The Center's mission is to provide and facilitate rigorous theoretical and practical training and support to law students in social justice advocacy and scholarship; to foster creative scholarship that views the law in a larger social context and is both accessible to the public and responsive to the needs of disadvantaged communities; and to promote collaborative efforts among academics, practitioners, advocacy organizations, policy makers, and community groups to realize a more just and equitable society.

Dream Fund Project

With support from the Dream Fund, the Thelton E. Henderson Center identified gaps in research regarding the impact of anti-affirmative action legislation on the economic and professional outcomes of women and people of color seeking public contracts or employment within California's transportation construction industry, specifically the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). As one of the state's largest employers and granting agencies in public contracting, Caltrans has one of the highest potentials for affecting wealth and employment among California's ethnically diverse population.
