Student Action with Farmworkers (SAF) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose mission is to bring students and farmworkers together to learn about each other's lives, share resources and skills, improve conditions for farmworkers, and build diverse coalitions working for social change. SAF accomplishes its mission by working with farmworkers to address their concerns through documentation projects, grassroots education and mobilization, leadership development of young people, policy advocacy, and support of labor organizing.
Dream Fund Project
With support of the Dream Fund, Student Action with Farmworkers works with seven advocacy, organizing, and community organizations to address educational discrimination faced by Latino/Hispanic and migrant youth in North Carolina. The coalition is a collaboration among nonprofit organizations that focus on advocacy and public policy, community organizing, and grassroots support. The project gives Latino/Hispanic and migrant parents the tools and information necessary to foster and maintain their children's success, seeks to create a consciousness among North Carolinians that is supportive and welcoming to Latino/Hispanic and migrant families, and works to hold North Carolina state and local educational systems accountable to providing a quality and equitable education to Latino/Hispanic and migrant students.
Funding also supports the existing coalition by developing its infrastructure. Members of the coalition include Blue Ribbon Mentor-Advocate Program, Center for Participatory Change, Communities In Schools of North Carolina, El Pueblo, North Carolina Latino Coalition, North Carolina Justice Center, North Carolina Society of Hispanic Professionals. along with Student Action with Farmworkers.
*"Adelante" is a Spanish word that has several meanings, including: onward, moving forward, welcome, and go for it.
