The Latino Coalition for a Healthy California (LCHC) is the leading organized voice for policies, services, and conditions to improve the health of Latinos. The Latino Coalition for a Healthy California - the only statewide organization with a specific emphasis on Latino health - was founded in 1992 by health care providers, consumers and advocates to impact Latino health through enhanced information, policy development and community involvement. Since then, the Latino Coalition for a Healthy California has positioned itself to meet the primary goal of its mission: "to develop and support policies, services and conditions that will improve the health of Latinos." Three major functions provide essential focus to the organization's work: public policy and advocacy; community education; and research. These functions complement LCHC's work in three key strategic areas: access to health care, health disparities, and community health.

Dream Fund Project

The Dream Fund grant provides core operating support to develop LCHC's research to inform legislative discussions aimed at increasing Latino representation in the California health care profession, to conduct policy development and to mobilize the Latino community in actively participating in relevant legislative discussions. LCHC will ultimately develop a policy brief documenting key policy solutions to address the under-representation of Latinos in educational institutions training health professionals, and subsequently, practicing in health professions.

For example, LCHC has advocated for public solutions to increase the participation of Latinos in the health profession. LCHC supports gathering data on the dental workforce, providing numerical data to make the case for diversity in the health profession. LCHC also supports creating scholarship and loan repayment program for health professionals serving in underserved areas, so that financial barriers do not preclude students from entering a career in the health profession.
