Founded in 1997 in response to a community crisis, Community Building Initiative (CBI) is grounded in the belief that race and ethnicity impact the lives of residents and institutional policies and practices. CBI convenes and engages individuals and organizations in structured and effective processes for addressing issues of racial and ethnic inclusion and equity.

Dream Fund Project

Funding from the Dream Fund supports Community Building Initiative's work to provide process design, content expertise and program management for Crossroads Charlotte, a civic engagement project focused on increasing levels of access and equity in an increasingly multi-racial/multi-ethnic community. Crossroads Charlotte engages individuals, organizations and the public-at-large to experience scenarios that describe four plausible futures and consider how institutional, collaborative and personal responses to issues of access, inclusion and equity can set the community on a path to a more positive future.
