CCMC was created in Washington, D.C. in 1988 by veteran nonprofit media specialists who understood that effective communications strategies are essential for turning good ideas into good public policy. Our mission then, and always, has been "to use communications strategy for policy change."

Since our founding, we have worked with many partners to develop and carry out dozens of policy-oriented communications initiatives that resulted in impressive gains. Our programs have involved issues basic to a healthy, just and equitable society: global health and population; women's rights; gender equality; children, youth and family policy; child welfare; health care and civil rights.

Dream Fund Project

CCMC received funding from the Dream Fund's Strategic Opportunities Fund to provide immediate support to groups involved in the recent ballot initiative campaigns. CCMC assembled a team of three communications strategists, ("Circuit Riders") who were available to work with these groups either on site or by phone. The CCMC "Circuit Riders" assisted with crisis management and damage control, the drafting of op-eds and other press materials, media outreach, and other tasks that are fundamental to the practice of strategic communications. CCMC interviewed key individuals, contributed in communications strategy discussions with the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights Education Fund and completed regular monitoring of news coverage on the initiatives. CCMC also provided trainings in Colorado and Nebraska to members of regional coalitions.
