The Beloved Community Center of Greensboro, North Carolina (BCC) is a community-based, grassroots empowerment oriented organization. Rooted in Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s legacy of proactive struggles for racial and economic justice, democracy and beloved community, the BCC is committed to grassroots empowerment, especially among minorities, within the context and spirit of forging a beloved community for all residents. The BCC mission statement strives for social and economic relationships that uphold the dignity, worth, and potential of everyone.

Dream Fund Project

The Beloved Community Center of Greensboro receives funding from the Fulfilling the Dream Fund to support its objective to build a grassroots community-based alliance between African American and Latino residents. The goals of this alliance are to identify and address structural problems and institutional racism that limit or prohibit access to higher education, access to jobs and/or self-employment opportunities. Specifically, Beloved Community Center will identify major institutional barriers to educational opportunity within Greensboro school system and work towards community engagement of school officials around these barriers. Long term goals of the project are:

  • An increase in the number of minorities (especially Blacks and Latinos) in Greensboro/Guilford County who enter and complete a program of higher education.
  • An increase in the number of minorities (especially Blacks and Latinos) who receive above living wage income as well as to increase access to diverse job opportunities.
  • Building the capacity in Greensboro/Guilford County to sustain the gains in these areas over a period of time.
